What is the best way to discover the city ?

On foot :
  • Using a brochure on sale at the Tourist Office describing the 4 walking trails, marked according to theme, that you can follow at your own rhythm.
  • Follow the UNESCO World Heritage Trail, a 1 1/2-hour walk representing a synthesis of the major monuments included in the 4 theme trails (described in the brochure on sale at the Tourist Office).
  • Follow one of the 2-hour guided visits open to the public during which you will be accompanied by a guide-lecturer (ask for the program at the Tourist Office).
  • With your cell phone or an MPS walkman rented at the Tourist Office, you can discover the city with « Allo Visit », an original and lively way of visiting with sound bites, roles played by actors, etc. Just dial 3223.
  • Take advantage of the global ticket « pass monuments » that permits entrance into the 6 monuments and 3 museums of the city.
  • Use the guidebook « Arles, guidebook » published by the Editions du Patrimoine.

And also :
  • Take the train on tires : from Easter to October you can discover the city and its principal monuments during a 40-minute tour with a commentary in 6 languages.
  • Travel by tourist train, at 20 km/h, between Arles and Fontvieille, the town made famous by Alphonse Daudet. The little Alpilles train takes you by the foot of Montmajour Abbey : www.rdt13.fr  .
  • Use your bicycle : cycling paths are marked in the town center.
